What do you enjoy most about teaching? Teaching is not a job–I am lucky to be able to do what I love every day. I am so fortunate to be able to share my enthusiasm for learning with my students. The best part of teaching is being able to connect with my students and make the curriculum come alive for them; I enjoy learning about my student’s interests and blending our learning in with those interests
What do you find most challenging about teaching?Of course there is always a balance to meet the diverse needs of learners but one of the biggest challenges is fitting all everything in each day
Best tip for new teachers: Think like a child (curious, excited, open minded), build solid routines that respect the self-sufficiency of the student and always believe that your students are the very brightest and most capable students ever!
Best tip for career teachers: Hopefully, you started teaching because you love to learn and teach. Don’t ever forget why you started teaching!
Favorite piece of advice for students: Act like a learner: nothing you ever learn in life is a waste.
What being a Gold Star Teacher means to you: How proud I am to be recognized among the most outstanding teachers in North Eastern Iowa! Being a Gold Star Teacher means that I must have learned from awesome teachers throughout my educational career. It means that my school must be an amazing school that fosters an environment where teachers can shine. It means that all of the love and hard work I put into my classroom has been recognized.
