Is your child anxiously awaiting summer vacation?  Is your dry erase board being plastered with a summer countdown list?  Would you like them to expand their knowledge while having fun this summer?  If you said yes to all of these questions – never fear because Camp Invention is here!

Some of you may be wondering…what in the world is Camp Invention?  Well, Camp Invention is a nationally acclaimed weeklong summer enrichment day experience for children entering in grades one through six!  The main objective of the Camp Invention program is to provide quality enrichment programming in the fields of science, math, history, and the arts.  What could be better than that?

Why is it so successful?  The Camp Invention program was created by the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation with support from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Since its inception in 1990, the program has grown to include more than 1200 sites in 49 states.   According to the national website, “Participating parents, educators, and children rave about the program — giving it an approval rating of more than 90%.”

Directed and taught by qualified and local educators, Camp Invention is a national STEM enrichment program from the nonprofit organization Invent Now.  Activities will also focus on skills like teamwork, critical thinking, decision-making, creative problem-solving, and working through failures.   Kids will be participating in awesome, scheduled activities every day throughout the week, here’s a few examples to kick-start your excitement!

  • Magnetropolis – Design a magnet-powered city and build a maglev train.
  • Inventeureka – Join Team Inventeureka and mash up ideas to build wacky and humorous widget inventions that morph into amazing, new prototypes!
  • I Can Invent: Balloon Burst – Work with real tools to take apart a small mechanical device, use the parts and other materials to build a Rube Goldberg machine!
  • Action and Adventure Games – Use upcycled materials and teamwork to create your own exciting new games!
  • …any many more!

And the best part is that Camp Invention is right in our back door!  Located at three locations (Cedar Heights Elementary School in Cedar Falls, Lincoln Elementary School and Lou Henry Elementary School both located in Waterloo), there’s no excuse to not attend!  How convenient!

Camp Invention will run for a week long starting on June 11 through June 15, 2012 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm.  Enroll here, today!  Space is limited to 110 campers in 1st through 6th grade, so don’t miss out on the chance for your child to unleash their creative genius!
