Math and Marshmallows: The Lucky Charms Project

By March 15, 2013 Local Interest

Lucky Charms may be magically delicious, but they are also a great math tool!

Mrs. Krapfl’s first grade class at Hudson Elementary School recently participated in an online St. Patrick’s Day Project that incorporated this tasty breakfast cereal in the classroom.  During the project, students divided, counted, and sorted the cereal.  At the end of the activities, the students created a large class graph to represent the different parts of the cereal.

However, the student’s results weren’t just kept in their classroom.  They were able to share their findings with more than 7,000 other students from Canada, Norway, France, and across the United States.

Now that’s what we call hands on learning!
