The Thing You Like Most About Teaching: Seeing students join band with no knowledge of how to put an instrument together or make a sound transform into masters of an instrument. Plus, I get to see the love of music that is fostered in the process!
The Thing You Find Most Challenging About Teaching: Finding enough hours in the day to give each child the attention he/she deserves!
Best Tip for New Teachers: Save every thank you card and good email you get from students and parents. Use these as your inspiration on the hard days!
Advice for Students: 1. Enjoy the ride. 2. If I had a nickel for every time I meet someone who says they wish they never quit music, I’d have a lot of nickels!
What Being a Gold Star Teacher Means to You: I am so honored and blessed by this award. Being a band director means putting in a lot of long hours outside of the school day–but knowing that I am impacting these student’s livs makes those long evenings completely worth it. It is the most wonderful feeling in the world to know my students ae making life-long memories and loving music because of band!
